Thank you Michael B Michael Burkhard, Biologist 21326 Bethel Church Rd Cornelius, NC 28031 704.397.6556 Mobile 1 Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Point Dr Sherrills Ford NC Catawba County Can you provide a photo of the same but with current condition? • See attached Photos existing conditions Also, I don't see why trees aren't included with the plan and/or larger shrubs. • See revised landscape plan Can you provide further information why other measures such as natural vegetation is not viable? Also, more concrete evidence of unreasonable erosion. • See photographs of the existing soil conditions when purchased • There had been several attempts by previous owners, to grow grass, presumably fescue, and sod in the area, all of which had failed and resulted in virtually all the topsoil being washed away over the years. And while the area is not as steep as the embankment bordering the lake, it is still 4:1 slope overall. Small equipment was utilized for the removal of a previous impervious area and the construction of the existing hard scape. • There is no practical way to get into the area even with small equipment, because of the location of the new patio and firepit, and the pre-existing retaining wall, which in combination create a barrier, from one side of our property to the other side of the property. Now, any work done in the area, can only be done with manual labor and hand tools (shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, due to inaccessibility. Please elaborate on purpose and need and hardship. • The owners of this property are both 70 years old and the area was dangerous for them. Before the artificial turf was installed, it was very treacherous to try to walk across this area. The owners considered mulching the area but because mulch is "loose," that factor in combination with the slope, would have made it even more dangerous for them than the barren soil, especially when wet. They were advised by the landscapers who were consulted with, that the best option to put a stop to the erosion problem would be to install the artificial turf which not only is permeable, but it promotes dispersed flow and is designed to do so. • The current proposed design creates a much larger area of infiltration and will consist of far more native NC shrubs, grasses, trees, etc., which will serve as a buffer between the affected areas and Lake Norman. How the new bank relates to the old bank. • See revised shoreline details • The existing shoreline slope varies: 1.5:1 to 3:1 • The proposed enhanced boulder shoreline slopes will be comparable and, in some areas, a gentler slope. Stabilization will be to 1 ft above full pond • Due to wave action of the wind and boat traffic, our intentions are to provide an extra foot of protection to better protect the new mitigation plantings. • By pulling down almost all of the riprap and replacing it with NC native plants all along the embankment bordering the lake, from end to end of our property, we are creating a much larger area of infiltration than the area where the artificial turf is located. On balance, the installation of artificial turf it seems to us that the proposed solution, which eliminated altogether the erosion, provides a huge area of infiltration, populated with only NC native plants, and believe this will be a win -win solution for all concerned. Gr✓ia Irk "'' 3qop P RA 4W 30 WFFE(L U NrcTIIU,aU "fU.RF 1 rh o rn C),,qls LoI t,nro* p,DVL PH IVO "rum TV LAV6r(A4f 60 O R 1 WV - BEN ! p -fK \rrL-7 I Eo2 I Wei tA 104or^U- f-i i( + Of m Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Point Dr Sherrills Ford NC 28673 Catawba County Photos of soil conditions when purchased 1 Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Point Dr Sherrills Ford NC 28673 Catawba County Photos of soil conditions when purchased 2 a,,ZO — Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Point Dr Sherrills Ford NC 28673 Catawba County Existing Conditions Ron Cox TREE SURVEY 2479 Camelia Pointe Dr. Sherrill's Ford, NC 28673 The southern portion of this property is presently wooded with 33 trees which consist of 7 different species of native trees of varying calipers. 4 Red Maples (Acer rubrum) 6 —10" Caliper / 3 Tulip Poplars (Liriodendron tulipifera) 12 —18" Caliper 12 Red Cedasr (Juniperus virginiana) 4 — 8" Caliper / 1 Black Cherry (Prunus serotina) 9" Caliper 3 Red Oaks (Quercus rubra) 14— 20" Caliper/3 White Oaks (Quercus alba) 11-14" Caliper 7 Pine trees of different species 6 —12" Caliper L C 4 Ib hookup rQtA. .t ne Water V pump dB cantrmol 01 r Wrnve f r / qa d +Yrr c+urllssr pr riuMmIn9 WQII is 0-40' Wsst of propert lir v 1/2" EAR tall Tap rur n et dCit hookup . end-. d • r stone }, b poflo } In A ea `} FFE' of bweet f 7re.l' 1 01 } ' / \0' 5e l } t } P Buffer Authorization Application REVISED Mitigation Landscape Plan: Substitutions are allowed due to availability Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Point Dr Sherrills Ford NC 28673 Catawba County Proposed Native Plants: Calgary Carpet Juniper (Juniperus sobina) Hakone Grass (Hokonechloo macro) Creeping Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis) Pampas Grass (Cortaderia selloana) Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) Evergreen Candytuft (lberis sempervirens) Eastern Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) Hillside Blueberry (Vaccinium pallidum) Carolina Rose (Rosa caroling) Plan for illustration only Under story trees: Flowering dogwood (Corpus florida) Sassafras (Sassafras albidum) Redbud (Cercis canadensis) Ron Cox 2479 Camelia Pointe Dr. Sherrill's Ford, NC 28673 Tree Removal Request: 11" Red Maple (Acer rubrum) 19" Crepe Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica) Both trees are severely undercut and unstable in the RR 12" Jack Pine (Pinus banksiana)13" Red Oak (Quercus rubra) Trees fallen in LKN 18" Tulip Poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) This tree is buttressing and is an imminent danger to the adjacent property owners boat dock and pier +Vrr u[►rllor G► ri9CON71ng WQII Is 0.4n' Wsst of Ampert lir 1/2" EIR tall ul Top ( ,;prep ' si:erJrt hookup x 4 rO hookup+ }• $. no r Stone l m votlo C1B r • I 1 1 { f ' / FFEat . lowest rewh, } o r V Purrrp 01 control cnnfraJ valve ' 1 \1° } 1i f ..
