Maple NC 27956 Phone 252-232-6065 Fax 252-453-3721 Email: Rod.Holley@CurrituckCountyNC.gov In response to NOV-2021-LV-0651 Notice of Violation & Intent to Assess Civil Penalty, the County has moved forward with requisitioning purchase orders to initiate the necessary repairs to the Ocean Sands WWTP. We have forwarded the Purchase Order confirmation to Basnight Construction to begin the necessary repairs and waiting for a schedule response to begin. The concentrations for BOD and Ammonia have been elevated due to the inability to backwash and solids being held throughout the plant and could not remove as designed. Chad Smalley with 419 Group has been contacted along with Bob Schneider with Core & Main and working to clear their schedule to see if they can figure out the electrical panel issue and investigate installing a separate main control panel at the FEQ tank to allow controls to be removed from the Phase I control building. This is to isolate the power controlling the FEQ pumps and install a high-level alarm to alert the Operators. Rob Shelden with Pete Duty & Associates has gone through the plant specs and devised a plan to replace the FEQ pumps in one tank with two pumps closer to the pump curve and flow rate that was desired by F.R. Mahony & Associates, to be reached through throttling back the valves versus utilizing a more efficient pump without modifying. This is a trial only in one FEQ tank and not retrofitting all the existing pumps. If it is at all possible, please reconsider the penalty assessment as it would benefit the plant more to utilize those funds in acquiring the necessary equipment, material, and contractors to get the plant back to a compliant status. Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or need additional information. Thank You, Rod Holley Wastewater Superintendent Trainee Rod. Hol ley©currituckcountync.gov Recv'd 9/8/21
