This inspection was conducted to determine if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General Permit no. NCG550000. The property and system appeared to be very well maintained. The Orenco AX20-RT UV system was installed around 2015. Prior to the inspection, Ms. Armeni spoke with the owner, Mr. Ken Gatton. He indicated that the property is occupied six months out of the year. A service contract is maintained with AQWA Inc., and they inspect and maintain the system yearly. A detailed report is provided to Mr. Gatton each year from AQWA that gives an overview of the system, which includes information about the condition of the discharge pipe. At the time of the inspection, the system was not discharging. NCG551562 17 (Cont.) Ms. Armeni will provide the invoice and it can be paid online. Comment: Operations & Maintenance Yes No NA NE Is the plant generally clean with acceptable housekeeping? Does the facility analyze process control parameters, for ex: MLSS, MCRT, Settleable Solids, pH, DO, Sludge Judge, and other that are applicable? Comment: Septic Tank Yes No NA NE (If pumps are used) Is an audible and visual alarm operational? Is septic tank pumped on a schedule? Are pumps or syphons operating properly? Are high and low water alarms operating properly? Mr. Gatton has a service contract with AQWA, Inc. AQWA comes out once a year to inspect and maintain the system. The system was last inspected by AQWA on November 29, 2021. The septic tank was last pumped on June 29, 2021 by Rathbone Septic Tank Pumping. Comment: Disinfection - UV Yes No NA NE Are extra UV bulbs available on site? Are UV bulbs clean? Is UV intensity adequate? Is transmittance at or above designed level? Is there a backup system on site? Is effluent clear and free of solids? The AQWA report from November 29, 2021 indicated that the UV system was properly working. Are the receiving water free of foam other than trace amounts and other debris? If effluent (diffuser pipes are required) are they operating properly? The effluent pipe with effluent screen was easily accessible and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. Comment: Effluent Sampling Yes No NA NE Is composite sampling flow proportional? Is sample collected below all treatment units? Is proper volume collected? Is the tubing clean? # Is proper temperature set for sample storage (kept at less than or equal to 6.0 degrees Celsius)? Is the facility sampling performed as required by the permit (frequency, sampling type representative)? Annual effluent sampling has not been required because the system has not been discharging; however, please continue to check the effluent pipe frequently and sample if the system discharges.
