Dear Agency Member,
The Town of Fuquay-Varina is proposing to implement intersection improvements at US 401 (Main
Street) and Mill Creek Drive in Wake County. The proposed project would include the construction of
the following new dedicated turn lanes:
• A second southbound left turn lane from US 401 onto Mill Creek Drive
• Northbound right turn lane from US 401 onto Mill Creek Drive
• Eastbound left turn lane from Mill Creek Drive onto US 401
• Eastbound right turn lane from Mill Creek Drive onto US 401
Additional improvements include installing crosswalks with pedestrian refuges, curb ramps, sidewalks
with grass utility strip, and tying into the planned Wallace Adcock Boulevard to the east. Please see
attached two figures of the project vicinity and surrounding environmental features.
The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion as traffic volumes at the intersection are
anticipated to increase. The Town received funding from the North Carolina Capital Area Metropolitan
Planning Organization's (CAMPO) Locally Administered Projects Program for construction of the
project. Construction is anticipated to begin as early as late 2022.
Any information you might have that would be helpful in evaluating potential environmental impacts of
the proposed project would be greatly appreciated. If applicable, please identify any permits or
approvals that may be required by your agency/department. A Type 1 and 11 Ground Disturbing
Categorical Exclusion Action Classification Form is anticipated to be prepared in compliance with the
National Environmental Policy Act.
