Preston Howard, Jr., P.E., Director November 20,1998 Mr. Mike Smith American Standard Trane Service First 4500 Morris Field Drive Charlotte, NC 28208 Subject: Representative Outfall Request NCO030098 American Standard - Trane Service First Mecklenburg County Dear Mr. Smith: The purpose of this letter is to transmit the Division of Water Quality's (Division) approval of your representative outfall request to have Stormwater Discharge Outfall (SDO) C be representative of SDOs A, B, and D of the subject facility The site visit of Mr. Antonio Evans of my staff revealed your facility has two areas (drainage areas A and C) that have exposure to industrial activity. The drainage area B. has roof drains. Since your facility is category A (light industry), the buildings themselves are not considered exposure of industrial activity unless your manufacturing process exposes the roof to raw materials; waste products, by-products etc. If . area B meets the non -exposure requirement, it does not have to be included in the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP). Area D which drains a grass field would'also be excluded from the SWPPP. During the site visit, Mr. Evans observed some Section 313 water'priority chemicals used in the wastewater treatment plant that did not have secondary containment. ' Discussion with Mr. Evans and your -self -revealed -that -plans were already -in place -being implemented -to -provide secondary containment ------- for these chemicals. If you change the industrial activity in the drainage areas or significantly change the operation of your business from its current status, you must notify the Division of Water Quality. If you have any questions, please call Antonio Evans at (919) 733-5683 x 584. Sincerely., . Preston Howard, Jr., P.B. cc: Mooresville Regional Office Central Files (} P.O.
