Please see the attached Certified Laboratory Contact Information sheets and most recent
Technical Bulletin. The laboratory contacts are to aid in finding the best fit for you with regards to
your effluent sampling requirements in your permit. When you contact a laboratory, they may
assist with sampling and analyzing the parameters that are specified in your permit. The Technical
Bulletin helps answer common questions and goes over important information you should know
about your permit and wastewater system.
If you do not have a copy of your permit, it can be found at the following website:
https://files. nc.gov/ncdeq/Surface%20Water%20Protection/NPDES/permits/NCG550000-2018-
Permit-Renewal.pdf
Please keep in mind the following permit requirements that will be evaluated during each
inspection:
1) The area around the effluent outfall must always be maintained. The pipe should be clearly
visible.
2) Water samples from your effluent pipe should be collected at least once a year. Please
maintain these records for your benefit and to share with the inspector during inspections.
Nitrogen, biochemical oxygen demand, fecal coliform, total suspended solids, and residual
chlorine (unless you have ultra -violet disinfection) are parameters that the permit requires
to be monitored.
3) Sludge from your septic tank needs to be pumped every few years to maintain proper
system function. When the system is pumped please keep receipts for your records and
to share with your inspector during inspections.
