Comment I strongly feel that the proposed Westpoint development is not in the best interest of Durham, our regional environment, and the Eno River itself. Over the last three years I have witnessed flooding of Black Meadow Branch which drains the site of this development. This flooding has already damaged the mill wheel area of the restored West Point Mill. As well, in periods of high rainfall, I have seen sewage manholes overflowing with sewage draining directly into the Eno River. This destruction and pollution is already happening with our current infrastructure. The almost 400 housing units for the Westpoint development will only make this worse. The Westpoint development has the potential to harm historical structures (Westpoint Mill), the quality of drinking water for Durham (Teer Quarry storage reservoir) and Raleigh (Falls of the Neuse Reservoir). I urge our city planners and other regulatory branches of government to reconsider this permitting process on the basis of environmental destruction and quality of life issues for the public of Durham and surrounding communities. The Covid pandemic has resulted in increased usage of our city and state parks. Westpoint on the Eno City Park is a valuable resource for our citizenry. Please do not allow the Westpoint development to degrade this valuable and historic park and our beloved Eno River.
