Comment Despite the success of nature parks like West Point on the Eno, the City of Durham is woefully behind in its obligation to protect 'open space'. There are too many benefits of land protection to list here, every one of which should be enough reason on its own for the City to acquire this property and add it to West Point on the Eno. [How cool would it be to have much -needed mtn. bike trails there!?!] Permitting the proposed development benefits VERY few people (mostly the developer who won't be held accountable for the disasterous consequences that'll ensue...just like so many downtown developers have gotten away with for years. This is the City's opportunity to reinvent itself as the place we all want to live by starting to create the type of community we all deserve. One that will truly attract and retain jobs and residents, while bolstering its own sustainability. I would attach a cost of community services study, but don't have time to pick one of the many that exist, but I urge our leaders to review a few. They will begin to learn that developments like this actually have a negative economic impact on the City, not the perceived positive impact. Please listen to those of us who are desperate for a positive change in this City, one that will make us proud to live here and provide opportunities & higher quality of life for ALL, regardless of race, income, gender, and political affiliation.
