Comment As a lifelong resident of Durham I am saddened to be writing this commentary. There is absolutely no excuse to let the proposed Black Meadow project move forward. Durham has rapidly grown over recent years, and many of our old growth forests have already been bulldozed to make way for housing and businesses. One of the best features of Durham is the beautiful nature that can be found in this relatively urban area. Allowing this project to proceed will destroy vital habitat for many creatures, and take away some of Durham's most pristine natural environment. We have an obligation to protect the wild species that make Durham their home as well. The proximity to a major body of water risks contamination and will lead to further pollution of the Eno River. Durham likes to market itself as a progressive city. In the time of climate change and forests disappearing everywhere we look, there is nothing progressive about allowing this monstrous development to occur, particularly when it sits next to the West Point, one of Durham's premier nature tourism areas. Please do not let this horrible atrocity move forward. The people, animals, and plants that call Durham home deserve better. This will degrade Durham and do nothing positive for the city.
