Comment I have lived in Durham since 1987. Needless to say, I've seen a lot of change in this part of North Carolina since I came here. It's one thing to see the extraordinary increase in the number of apartment buildings in Durham's downtown. And yes, there has been notable growth in housing development where once there was wooded land in the area around Durham. That's urban growth, and not unreasonable to expect for a city as vital as Durham. But one of the most appealing aspects of Durham is that not far from our exciting urban region there is beautiful wooded land and bodies of water that remind us — those of us who pay attention — — that we still have a connection to the land, a place to be present to the sweet, quiet wonders of nature, a place that supports wildlife and good, clean water —essential for life... Please. Do not let this project go forward. There is no way for it to continue without devastating loss, not only of a precious piece of land, but of the quality of life in the land that surrounds it. Sometimes we have an opportunity to make a decision in the name of what is right, as opposed to in the name of what is profitable. Please make the decision in the name of what is right.
