Comment Please do not approve the the housing development on Black Meadow Ridge at West Point on the Eno River. One of the most attractive aspects of living in Durham is being able to hike and walk along the forested banks of the Eno River, only minutes drive for most Durhamites. It is the best family friendly fun and free activity in the outdoors. Families can picnic, walk, hike, swim fish and kayak along the Eno surrounded by forest. One of the most popular family areas is West Point on the Eno. The developers do not need to build their development on the banks for the Eno just so they can market their dwellings as "on the Eno River". You know they are going to do this, to increase the value of their properties. They should choose an urban environment for such an intense housing estate where it belongs. Please do not allow a further 50 acres of forest to be clear cut. These forests are home to many critters and birds and frogs and insects. These creatures are under such pressure with the clearing of forest for development that they are retreating to our backyards to eat our scraps and causing nuisance. Let them stay in the forest, in this particular tract of forest. Please do not allow more trees to be cut down. Flying over Durham in 2001 I was struck by how much greenery I could see; now in 2021 the greenery is considerably reduced and if developers have they sway, Durham will lose its treed character and becoming Anytown. Please spare these trees who pump out oxygen and sequester our carbon. We are losing too many to greed. I understand we need more intense urban development but urban residents need their green places, their river and their forested areas. Please encourage a philanthropist or facilitate an organization like the Eno River Association or the Triangle Land Conservancy to purchase this tract of forest land. I once walked it after a big snow fall; such magic. It cannot be lost.
