Comment I am absolutely opposed to the Westpoint development and their permit application!! Now more than ever we need to protect our environment, and the current assessments do NOT reflect the true picture and outcomes of the development's impacts and the impacts from the 401 Individual Clean Water Act Permit disturbances. This project is NOT in the Public Interest of Durham residents OR the environment. This project will have negative impacts on water quality and Durham's drinking water. I have concerns with urban stormwater runoff, which is much more concerning given the extreme environmental events that have been experienced globally more consistently over recent years due to global warming. The project doesn't fully address the negative impacts to historic sites. Multiple endangered species are at risk, including the Neuse River Waterdog salamander, Atlantic Pigtoe mollusks, and Carolina Madtom. In addition, the West Point on the Eno serves as a valuable asset to the Durham community as a safe space in nature to seek out exercise, activity, and time to immerse in nature and marvel at the natural world. To lose even some of this space to development would be SUCH a loss to our community, with long-term impacts and adverse ramifications for future citizens. Please do not move forward with this project.
