The number one pollutant of the Eno River is sediment run off. Every time the watershed is cut it bleeds soil into
the river, even when the development is finished excessive sediment continues. No one has fabricated a man
made system that can stop it, despite heroic attempts to try. This development with its high density impervious
surface will just exacerbate soil erosion off of West Point Park with the accelerated runoff. The Eno is too
valuable a resource for drinking water, recreation, and habitat to allow growing degradation. And West Point Park
is too valuable to crowd it with high density development. The best use of Black Meadow Ridge is forest. Forest
buffer is the single best protector of the river, and the further development is held back,the healthier the river.
The best case, Black Meadow Ridge becomes part of West Point Park and completely protected. This protects
the river and protects precious and disappearing green space and wildlife habitat in Durham. At a minimum,
development density should be no greater than the surrounding residential use.
