I object to the approval of the Westpoint Project without the necessary investigation into short term and long term
effects on: the drinking water quality, water supply, water aquafier, runoff, pollution, flooding, the nature preserve,
the city river park, threatened and endangered species and their habitats, wetlands, the historic sites, aquatic
ecosystems, trails system, tree conservation, hydrocarbon release, thermal pollution, noise pollution, lack of a
buffer zone, and any related evolving results of such project. It is mandatory to set in place some building
development regulations before approval of this or any project.
Previously, I lived in an existing subdivision that backed up to an open area of grass and trees. The city allowed
construction on that green space and the result was the homes adjacent to the construction/subdivision flooded.
It took the residents 10 years of flooding and fighting until the CITY/NOT THE DEVELOPER paid to alleviate the
flooding of their homes. Ten years of suffering and expense and the CITY paid. The developer had made his
money and I am sure had deep pockets=attorneys to delay and deflect.
Do we believe you have investigated thoroughly enough? Do you want to risk us saying "We told you so!"? Are
the "Public Interests of the City" swayed by the expectation of future tax money from a massive development?
Blasting? Sounds like it's time for Erin Brockovich to be involved BEFORE the disaster hits and your residents
have to live with the aftermath of diminished natural surroundings/green space and a polluted environment.
These events as they could unfold are not unforeseen but predictable and therefore, I suggest, sue -able. It would
be negligent for all the decision makers to not do what they have sworn to do - to protect the public they serve
and to uphold their own integrity by taking an extended necessary period of time for thorough researching,
investigating and consulting with experts before they sign away the future of their residents. This decision is
momentous; larger than a 100 year flood; it is a FOREVER decision.
