Bethany et al, We are working on the benchmark exceedances for copper, zinc, and oil & grease as provided in the table below for the following outfalls for CommScope, Inc. — Catawba Facility (NCG030078): Outfall No. Copper Result (Benchmark is 0.010 mg/L) Zinc Result (Benchmark is 0.126 mg/L) Oil & Grease Result (Benchmark is 15 mg/L) 003 0.062 0.34 004 0.20 005 0.014 0.285 No sample — bottle froze in refrigerator 006 0.14 16.9 009 0.014 No sample — bottle froze in refrigerator 012 0.17 We are informing maintenance of corrective actions that need to be taken to resolve these exceedances including the following specific steps: 1) All metal stored outside needs to be covered and needs to be stored away from any storm drains. 2) Any metal sitting near storm drains must be removed. 3) For any construction areas/sites, all dumpsters need to be covered (including any construction debris). 4) Certain outfalls have discharge pipes that have deteriorated due to erosion and rust; these need to be replaced. 5) Perform monthly regular sweeping of parking lots and surrounding areas to assist with keeping sediment and zinc particulates out of the stormwater system. 6) Consider painting any galvanized metal surfaces that may contribute towards these exceedances. Galvanized surfaces can include roofs, gutters, flashing, fencing, sidewalls, guard rails, downspouts, etc. Nicole Johnston 336-366-0870 cell #
