Here's a couple of bullets for your consideration: • The project will most certainly impact the North Fork First Broad River which is being proposed for ORW status based on excellent water quality and it is the only water that we have sampled in this subbasin that had excellent water quality at the time. • When ambient nutrient data from the First Broad River was reviewed and compared to nutrient concentrations we use for evaluating eutrophication potential in mountain reservoirs, the data indicated elevated nutrients and the potential for eutrophication problems once the dam is in place. Of course there are a variety of factors that would impact the potential for eutrophication problems and they must be considered in addition to the potential impacts of development that naturally takes place around reservoirs. Buffers such as those promised in the public notice will be essential. These observations support the request for nutrient modeling of the system as part of any environmental reviews done. • During the 2000 assessment of the First Broad River, flow was indicated as a factor in keeping benthos from supporting an excellent water quality rating ;however even during the drought these sites had good water quality based on benthos. Definitely a need to assess impacts of flow modification on surrounding waters. • Is a 100 foot buffer sufficient? • We're pulling some flow data that we took on the First Broad a while back and may have some additional comments based on that. • Are you going to send the documents you referenced to Cyndi (reclass info, etc.)? 1 of 2 9/9/2005 4:01 PM Re: [Fwd: Re: Comments on Reservoir] Thanks Dianne Michelle Raquet wrote: Dianne... Here are the comments I pulled together for the Planning Section. Darlene's comments have been incorporated and I have it out for Alan Clark's review. I would like to send this out to Cyndi Karoly (Section 401) Monday evening/Tuesday morning. Let me know if you would like to add more information/comments to this and I can cc: you.... I am glad that we have been able to drum up some interest in this project!
