(Aqua) offers the following response to the above -referenced Compliance Evaluation Inspection which was issued for the inspection conducted on January 13, 2022. Per CEI, Aqua should respond to: A majority of the bar screen is submerged in the aeration basin and ineffective at removing paper debris, etc. It is requested that a written response be submitted...addressing the actions taken to address the ineffective bar screen. Aqua's Response: The existing single train treatment plant was constructed per NC DEQ approved plans and specifications. This installation is decades old and to our knowledge there has not been any non- compliance event related to the bar screen. If NC DEQs engineer finds that the bar screen as installed does not meet applicable design guidelines, then it is probably most appropriate that NC DEQs engineer contact the design engineer and specify the error or omission. If Aqua determines that operationally this bar screen is causing a potential compliance issue, then Aqua will take actions as necessary to remove the risk.
