Initial reports indicate that 14,000 gallons were lost into the street which likely found it’s way down through the storm drains out from our project. The resident engineer’s office is investigating the incident with the Town of Shallotte and is putting together a report which I will then forward on to you. It sounds like the location of the rupture was outside of the U-5788 Wall St. project limits but we are not sure if the rupture could have been linked to the project in anyway due to changes in pressure from the sewer line installation performed a few weeks ago or from vibrations with the ongoing paving. I am sending Sophia down there this afternoon to get some photos and will forward on the additional reports that I receive. https://www.wect.com/2022/03/06/14000-gallons-raw-sewage-spills-out-onto-shallotte-streets/ Thanks, Sean Farrell Division Environmental Officer Division 3 NCDOT- Division of Highways 910-341-2033 office 910-599-1184 mobile scfarrell@ncdot.gov 5501 Barbados Blvd Castle Hayne, NC 28429 Email correspondence to and from this address is subject to the North Carolina Public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties.
