Subject: Request for a NW 3 Permit and DWQ 401 for the replacement of Low Impact Bridge # 13 over
Turkey Creek on SR 1300 (Wise Store Road) in Hertford County. WBS # 17BPA.R.57
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is requesting the issuance of a NW 3 permit
and corresponding DWQ certification for the replacement of Low Impact Bridge # 13 in Hertford County.
The bridge is located on SR 1300 approximately 0.60 miles north of the intersection with Vaughn Mill
Road. The bridge spans Turkey Creek, which is classified by DWQ as class "C, NSW" waters. Bridge #
13 is currently a steel structure with a steel plank deck that is 40 ft. long by 28 ft. wide. This structure will
be removed using NCDOT's guidelines for bridge removal. The proposed bridge will be replaced on its
existing alignment. The new bridge structure will be 85' long by 33' wide and built with a precast cored
slab concrete deck. Jurisdictional wetland and surface water impacts have been minimized, resulting in 19
sq. ft. of permanent wetland impact. An off -site detour will be utilized during construction. This bridge is
following the Low Impact Bridge Process established by FHWA, NCDOT and Regulatory Agencies.
