Re: Tier One Stormwater Monitoring Benchmark Exceedance Response
Amazon.com Services LLC — CTL6
12220 Carolina Logistics Drive
Pineville, North Carolina 281 134
Certificate of Coverage #: NCG060422
Dear Sir or Madam:
BSI Consulting (BSI) performed a stormwater monitoring event on February 4, 2022 at the Amazon.com
Services LLC — CTL6 facility located at 12220 Carolina Logistics Drive in Pineville, North Carolina (the
facility) in accordance with their approved Certificate of Coverage #: NCG060422.
Per the facility's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), stormwater samples were collected
from two locations (Sampling Point 01 and Sampling Point 02) and analyzed for total suspended solids
(TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and pH. North Carolina's Benchmark Values for these analytes are
100 milligrams per liter (mg/L), 120 mg/L, and 6.0 — 9.0 standard units (S.U.), respectively. The sample
locations and designations shown within the Drainage Area Site Map for the facility are included as an
attachment to this response letter.
While the results of the TSS and COD analyses for the sampling points did not result in a Benchmark
Value exceedance, pH was reported above North Carolina's Benchmark Value of 9.0 S.0 at each of the
two sampling points. The pH value for Sample Point 01 was 9.83 S.U. and the pH value for Sample Point
02 was 9.85 S.U.

The facility has implemented the following responses as a result of the pH exceedances in accordance
with Table 3, Section E-5 of North Carolina's General Permit NCG060000:
• The exceedance and sampling date will be recorded within the facility's SWPPP.
• The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land
Resource's Regional Office will receive the transmission of this letter (via email), a copy of which
will be recorded within the facility's SWPPP.
• An inspection of the site was completed on February 4, 2022 to, in part, identify any potential
sources of stormwater impacts from the facility.
• The site inspection did not identify an obvious source of the elevated pH recorded at the site.
It was noted, though, that road salt had been used across the industrial areas of the site for
de-icing purposes and as road salt has a mineral content, dissolved road salts in stormwater
runoff can be "hard water", or high in mineral content, and have an elevated pH as a result.
• The recommended action for the facility is to resample in Quarter 2 of 2022, which should be
free of the effects of dissolved road salt, and evaluate data and initiate corrective actions should
pH concentrations in excess of Benchmark Values persist.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have questions or require additional information
regarding the above outlined Benchmark Value exceedance or Tier One Response/Action plan.
