The existing 52' L X 20' W timber deck on timber joists with timber caps, piles and bulkheads is structurally deficient and will be replaced with a new, single span 85' L X 30' W, box beam bridge at the same location. An off-site detour will be utilized during construction. The project involves no wetland impacts (there are no wetlands on the project site) and no stream impacts (temporary or permanent). The existing bridge and piers/timbers will be removed by crane from high ground. There are no deck drains on the bridge; instead, stormwater runoff will be captured and discharged onto a dissipator pad in a non-buffer area at non-erosive velocities (0.8 fps). The Bald Eagle is protected in every county in North Carolina under the Bald and Goid Eagle Protection Act; however, no suitable feeding/water source is located within one mile of the project study area to support Bald Eagle habitat.
