Shelton,
Alcoa has a draw down planned for the coming fall, mainly to allow excavation & pier construction/ maintenance. The
water level will be dropped 8 -10 ft and that is the time frame we anticipate doing the excavation. This will allow a track
hoe
and dump truck access.
As for the width of the excavation, Alcoa has a maximum floating section requirement of 22ft wide, which is the width
we plan to build.
30 ft only gives us 4ft on either side.
I consider that fairly minimal already..
Let me know any further concerns.
Thanks

Two more questions...
• dredging activities must occur from land or from barge. I do not see the method specified in the
application? Only see "back hoe and dump truck ". I do not see how the back hoe will be out of
the water as far out as the exaction is needed. Please explain how the excavation will occur and
how the area will be accessed. This is necessary to minimize any impacts to water quality.
• Also, can the width of the excavation be minimized to the pier width or a little wider than the
pier instead of being 30 feet as proposed.
Thank you,

Hi Shelton,
The owner is Jennifer Bruce, formally Jennifer Bost.
Yes, this is dredging only, without shoreline stabilization.
The purpose of the dredging is to obtain an 8ft water depth at 75ft out from the high water mark, which
is the minimum water depth required by Alcoa for a pier permit. We currently have only 6.5ft of depth &
Alcoa will not issue a pier permit.
Boat access is actually not the main purpose behind the dredging request.
The pier requirements do specify a maximum of 75ft long. Alcoa will approve a 75 ft length, if the
minimum 8ft water depth is reached.
I hope this answers everything, please let me know any further concerns.
Thanks

I have a few questions...
• Is owner Jennifer Bruce or Jennifer B Bost as from the Rowan County website?
• Is this dredging only without shoreline stabilization?
• What is the purpose and need for the dredging if only proposing pier
construction?
• If this is for boat access, please explain.
• What is the proposed size of the pier?
• Will local lake authority approve a 75 ft. long pier.
