Fearrington Village Collection System appreciates the opportunity to respond to the Notice of Violation
issued on January 24, 2022.
We were first notified of the issue on Friday afternoon, December 17th at 4:15. Our sewer assistant was
called immediately and returned to the site to inspect the area. He turned off the pumps once he realized
there were signs of an overflow and called C & J Utilities to assist and notified Operator. They arrived
on site before 6:00 PM They assessed the issue and determined that a ladder in the manhole had broken
loose from the manhole and created the back-up. They immediately moved the ladder, the pumps were
turned back on and problem was abated. Due to the darkness, utilized lights to assess the overflow; but
vision was limited. Operator and sewer assistant returned to site next morning; clean-up was performed
and lime applied to neutralize any odor. No further issues with this area since incident
Our operations Manager verbally reported ibis overflow issue on Monday, December 20t to Cheng
Mang at DWR and filed Form CS-SSO on same day.
Fearrington Utilities respectfully requests that the Division take in account we have numerous manholes
in this collection system to inspect and maintain. We do not believe this was an operational issue; just an
isolated incident that we took immediate action and remedied and therefore request no civil penalty be
charged.
