MSD is seeking a Nationwide 12 Permit for Its Wendover Road Sanitary Sewer Rehabilation
project. This project includes 1 stream crossing of Canie Creek. This crossing is just south of
School Road in West Asheville, NC. Crossing S -1 proposes to disturb approximately 20' of
streambank.
The project is for the replacement of an existing sewer main on the north (eastern) side of
Canie Creek between School Road and Sand Hill Road. The sewer is serving an area along and to
the north of Wendover Road. The sewer mains serving areas on the north side Wendover Road -
and along School Road and Clarendon Road will be redirected to the existing sewer interceptor
(outfall main) on the south (western) side of Canie Creek. This will necessitate 1 new creek
crossing (Crossing S -1 in the PCN) but will eliminate an existing crossing to the south of crossing

S -1. The eliminated crossing currently runs parallel to the creek and is under the creek channel
for about 100 feet. The portion of this line that is under the creek channel will be plugged and
abandoned.in place and will not provide additional creek disturbances.
The PCN form and maps attached to this packet provided the location of this project and
proposed creek crossing.
MSD has obtained a preliminary assessment from the -NC Wildlife Resources Commission and
NC Cultural Resources,Commission as to-the presence (or absence) of endangered species or
items of historical value in the vicinity of Crossing S -1. As, per the information provided by those
agencies, no endangered species -or historical artifacts are anticipated to be found in the vicinity
of Crossing S -I Further, all other areas within this-project have been previously disturbed-by
existing sewer mains, other public utilities or roadways.
