Hi Monica,
With a permit renewal application on file, the current permit is automatically extended and remains
in full force until the new permit is issued. Please continue to implement the conditions in the
current/expired NPDES MS4 stormwater permit as required until such time as the Division issues a
new permit. DEQ’s Stormwater Program is currently short staffed with multiple vacant positions and
the permit queue is substantially backlogged. We very much appreciate your patience and ongoing
efforts to implement a compliant stormwater management program in the meantime. We hope to
be fully staffed again and clear the backlog in the coming months.
Best Regards,
J

Good morning Jeanette-
The Town of Wake Forest’s existing NPDES MS4 Permit is set to expire on February 18, 2022. We
submitted our NPDES MS4 Permit Renewal Application on November 11, 2021 via email, and the
hard copy was sent in the mail. (see attached the original email)
Please let us know if you need any additional information for the permit renewal. We completed
our audit on December 1, 2021 and are still awaiting the official report. I have followed up with our
auditors, Thad Valentine and Lauren Garcia, and they confirmed that they have all the information
required from the audit.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Monica Sarna, PE
