Narrative
Revised 1/31/22
As acting agent for Chris and Michelle Myers, I am submitting a CAMA Major Permit application for their
property located at 8733 Bald Eagle Lane, adjacent to Futch Creek, Wilmington, in New Hanover County.
It should be noted that based on initial comments/concerns from NCDWR, NCDMF and NC Wildlife, we
have made several changes to the proposed project. The existing docking facility will be removed and a
new 6' x 99' pier will be constructed terminating in a new 20' x 20' covered platform. A new floating dock
measuring 8' x 40' (this has been reduced by 2' in length and we've eliminated the attached kayak launch
proposal) will be installed waterward of the covered platform and will extend out to the existing pier -head
line (which is an additional 1' waterward on the western end and 1'/2' waterward on the eastern end of the
original proposal). A new 14' x 14' boatlift will be located on the western end of the floating dock and will
extend (an additional 1' waterward of the original proposal) out to the existing pier -head line A 12' x 12'
"sling type" boatlift will be installed on the eastern end of the floating dock and will extend out to the
existing pier -head line. This equates to an additional 1'/2' waterward of the original (14' x 14') proposal and
a 2' x 2' reduction in size as well as a change from a regular boatlift to a "sling type" lift, in essence, these
changes will locate the new lift a total of 3'/2' waterward from the original proposal. The originally proposed
attached floating kayak launch has been eliminated and a new 8' x 14' elevated (min. 18" off the substrate)
fixed "stepdown" platform will be installed between the covered platform and floating dock and will be
access via steps from the northwestern side of the covered platform. This platform will be used to launch
and retrieve kayaks and standup paddle boards.
The new docking facility will be located approx. 6'/2' waterward of the existing docking facility on the
eastern side and 6' waterward on the western side and will extend up to the existing pier -head line and will
not encroach into the adjacent 15' riparian corridor setbacks. This will provide for a little more water depth
than the existing and originally proposed dock. If required by commenting agencies, then stops will be
installed to keep the floating dock 18" off the bottom at all times and limit switches and stops will also be
installed on both boatlifts. As proposed, this docking facility will accommodate up to 4 small vessels and
the floating dock and boatlifts will be in water depths ranging from approx. -11" to -2' at NLW. Please note
that if required by commenting agencies all shellfish located within the footprint of the proposed structures
will be carefully relocated as needed.
A new 104' long vinyl bulkhead with 10' wingwalls will also be installed along the waterward toe of the
high bank and a 20' wide tie -back area will extend landward from the top of the new bulkhead towards the
dwelling.
