Drawer 4889, Cary, NC 27519 Enclosed is the original and two copies of the permit renewal application for the above -described discharge permit. This permit involves the discharge of backwash water from iron/manganese removal filters at a community well serving Fox Run subdivision in Gaston County. Generally, one filter will backwash each day onto the ground near the well lot located in the subdivision with an estimated backwash flow of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 gallons per day. There is no pretreatment of the backwash water prior to the discharge, although it passes through a settling tank. Although no sludge has historically accumulated or been removed from the settling tanks, if needed, the sludge would be pumped by a permitted septage hauler and disposed of in one of Heater's existing wastewater treatment plants or into a properly permitted municipal facility.
