RE: Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC
Allen Steam Station, NPDES Permit NC0004979
Part A. (22.) Clean Water Act Section 316(b) Submittal
Dear Sir or Madam:
In accordance with the provisions of NPDES Permit NC0004979, Part A. (22.),following and enclosed is
our timely submittal of the requested Clean Water Act § 316(b) information for the Allen Steam Station.
Specifically, the Department has requested that the submitted 316(b) information be provided by January
31, 2022. We believe that this submittal completely satisfies this obligation.
As detailed in the enclosed reports, the Allen Steam Station meets Best Technology Available for
impingement and entrainment through a system of technologies, including flow reductions resulting from
the retirement of three of the five Allen units during 2021.
The system of technologies alternative is justified due to the design of the intake structure and the intake
flow reductions associated with the retirements of Units 2, 3, and 4.
