This letter is in response to the request for a verification of intent to proceed with the Dillsboro Dam
Removal and Reservoir Dredging Project (DWQ Project #2003-0179, Ver. 6) in Jackson County,
contained within the DWQ additional information request (AIR), received May 24, 2007. Please
accept this letter as the notification of Duke Energy Carolinas' (Duke) intent to proceed with this
project as proposed, including securing the necessary permits from the DWQ and the United States
Army Corps of Engineers. As you requested, this letter is also being sent to Mr. Kevin Barnett at the
DWQ Asheville Regional Office.
We are currently compiling the additional information you have requested and will submit five
copies of the response to your office as soon as it is complete. Duke appreciates the opportunity to
