The Division of Water Resources received the Year 3 Monitoring Report for the above - referenced site,
dated 2013.
Based on review of the monitoring report, Cemetery Brach appeared to be fairly stable, but Dye Branch
had multiple areas of aggradation/degradation, failed structures, and downcutting, likely due to the flashy
nature of the watershed. Additional repairs may be warranted if the stream does not appear to be
stabilizing and downcutting continues.
Vegetation monitoring data for 2013 show that the site is not meeting the overall Year 3 performance
standard of 320 planted stems per acre. Five plots out of seven were below the performance standard.
While a number of species of volunteers have become established at the site, the majority of these are
tulip poplar and sweetgum. The survival and growth of the planted stems is a concern, and this site needs
to be closely monitored to ensure successful revegetation of the site.
The report indicates that invasive species are present across approximately 22% of the site. EEP should
consider treating these invasive populations to ensure that they do not affect planted vegetation at the
site.
In addition, the site appears to have buffers narrower than the standard width, and the site appears to have
been instituted in 2005. Some credit adjustment may occur at closeout due to the narrow buffer widths.
