1. After complete stabilization of the entire covered area,
top cover soils will be roughened by making 1"-2" deep
grooves perpendicular to the slope.
2. Spread lime (agricultural limestone) evenly over the area
at a rate of 1.5 tons/acre; spread 10-10-10 fertilizer at rate
specified and incorporate into the top 6" of soil.
3. Loosen surface prior to applying seed.
4. Broadcast seed at recommended rates.
5. Rake seed into the soil and lightly pack to establish good contact.
6. Mulch with 4000 lb/acre grain straw or equivalent and anchor by
weighted farm disc set nearly straight or other mulch anchoring tool.
7. Mow as needed and refertilize in late winter or early spring by topdressing
with 10- 10-10 fertilizer.
8. Graded surfaces shall not be exposed without grass coverage for more
than 15 days. If grades are not complete and exposure is more than
15 days, temporary seed as specified.
NOTES FOR DETENTION BASIN
CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS
SITE PREPARATIONS - CLEAR, GRUB AND STRIP TOPSOIL FROM THE SITE AREA OF THE NEW POND TO
REMOVE TREES, VEGETATION, ROOTS AND OTHER OJECTIONABLE MATERIAL. TO FACILITATE SEDIMENT
CLEANOUT, STOCKPILE ALL TOPSOIL OR SOIL CONTAINING ORGANIC MATTER FOR USE ON THE OUTER SHELL
OR THE EMBANKMENT TO FACILITATE VEGETATIVE ESTABLISHMENT. PLACE TEMPORARY SEDIMENT CONTROL
MEASURES BELOW THE BASIN AS NEEDED.
CONDUIT SPILLWAYS - SECURELY ATTACH THE RISER TO THE BARREL OR BARREL STUB TO MAKE A
WATER -TIGHT STRUCTURAL CONNECTIN. SECURE ALL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN BARREL SECTIONS BY
APPROVED WATER -TIGHT ASSEMBLIES. PLACE THE BARREL AND RISER ON A FIRM, SMOOTH FOUNDATION OF
IMPERVIOUS SOIL. DO NOT USE PERVIOUS MATERIAL SUCH AS (SAND, GRAVEL, OR CRUSHED STONE AS
BACKFILL AROUND THE PIPE OR ANTI -SEEP COLLARS. PLACE THE FILL MATERIAL AROUND THE PIPE
SPILLWAY IN 4 INCH LAYERS AND COMPACT IT UNDER AND AROUND THE PIPE TO AT LEAST THE SAME
DENSITY AS THE ADJACENT EMBANKMENT. CARE MUST BE TAKEN NOT TO RAISE THE PIPE FROM FIRM
CONTACT WITH ITS FOUNDATION WHEN COMPACTING UNDER THE PIPE HAUNCHES. PLACE A MINIMUM DEPTH
OF 2 FT. OF HAND -COMPACTED BACKFILL OVER THE PIPE SPILLWAY BEFORE CROSSING IT WATH
CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT. ANCHOR THE RISER IN PLACE BY CONCRETE OR OTHER SATISFACTORY MEANS
TO PREVENT FLOTATION. IN NO CASE SHOULD THE PIPE CONDUIT BE INSTALLED BY CUTTING A TRENCH
THROUGH THE DAM AFTER THE EMBANKMENT IS COMPLETE.
EMERGENCY SPILLWAY - INSTALL THE EMERGENCY SPILLWAY' IN UNDISTURBED SOIL. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF
PLANNED ELEVATIONS, GRADE, DESIGN WIDTH, AND ENTRANCE AND EXIT CHANNEL SLOPES ARE CRITICAL TO
THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF THE EMERGENCY SPILLWAY.
INLETS - DISCHARGE WATER INTO THE POND IN A MANNER TO PREVENT EROSION. USE OUTLET PROTECTION
AT EACH PIPE TO PREVENT EROSION OF THE POND FLOOR.
EROSION CONTROL - CONSTRUCT THE STRUCTURE SO THAT THE DISTURBED AREA IS MINIMUMIZED. DIVERT
SURFACE WATER AWAY FROM BARE AREAS. COMPLETE THE EMBANKMENT BEFORE THE AREA IS CLEARED.
SAFETY - SEDIMENT BASINS MAY ATTRACT CHILDREN AND CAN BE DANGEROUS. AVOID STEEP SIDE SLOPES,
AND MARK BASINS WITH WARNING SIGNS IF TRESPASSING IS 'LIKELY.
MAINTENANCE NOTES FOR DETENTION BASIN
1. AFTER EVERY SIGNIFICANT RUNOFF PRODUCING RAINFALL EVENT AND AT LEAST MONTHLY:
A: INSPECT THE DETENTION BASIN SYSTEM FOR SEDIMENT ACCUMULATION, EROSION, TRASH
ACCUMULATION, VEGETATED COVER, AND GENERAL CONDITION.
B: CHECK AND CLEAR THE ORIFICE OF ANY OBSTRUCTIONS SUCH THAT DRAWDOWN OF THE TEMPORARY
POOL OCCURS WITHIN 2 TO 5 DAYS AS DESIGNED.
2. REPAIR ERODED AREAS IMMEDIATELY, RE -SEED AS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN GOOD VEGETATIVE COVER,
MOW VEGETATIVE COVER TO MAINTAIN A MAXIMUM HEIGHT OF SIX INCHES, AND REMOVE TRASH AS NEEDED.
3. INSPECT AND REPAIR THE COLLECTION SYSTEM (I.E. CATCH' BASINS, PIPING, SWALES, RIPRAP, ETC.)
QUARTERLY TO MAINTAIN PROPER FUCTIONING.
4. REMOVE ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT FROM THE DETENTION BASIN SYSTEM SEMI-ANNUALLY OR WHEN DEPTH
IS REDUCED TO 75% OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN DEPTH. REMOVED SEDIMENT SHALL BE DISPOSED OF IN AN
APPROPRIATE M NER AND SHALL BE HANDLED IN A MANNER THAT WILL NOT ADVERSELY IMPACT WATER
QUALITY I.E. STO PILING NEAR A WET DETENTION BASIN 0 8-STREAM, ETC.)
>r j`:.
THE MEASURING D V CE USED TO DETERMINE THE SEDIMENT k,TION SHALL BE SUCH THAT IT WILL GIVE
AN ACCURATE DEP READING AND NOT READILY PENETRATE `A000MULATED SEDIMENTS.
WHEN THE PERMANEN POOL DEPTH READS 1 FOOT IN THE= SEDIMENT SHALL BE REMOVED.
5. IF THE BASIN MU T BE DRAINED FOR AN EMERGENCY MAIN NANCE, THE FLUSHING OF
SEDIMENT THROUGH TH EMERGENCY DRAIN SHALL BE MINIMI _ ,L-_ E MAXIMUM EXTENT PRACTICAL.
6. ALL COMPONENTS OF HE DETENTION BASIN SYSTEM SHL.` MAINTAINED IN GOOD WORKING ORDER.
