DIRECTIONS TO THE SITE From Asheville, take I-40 West to exit 27 (US 74 west towards Waynesville). Continue on US 74 west to NC 28 in Almond (48 miles). Follow NC 28 to just east of Red Barn Hollow Road (project terminus). Follow NC 28 to NC 143 into Robbinsville. Follow US 129 south just south of Five Point Road (project terminus). 18. Nature of Activity (Description of project, include all features) STIP Project A-0009C involves improving US 129, NC 143, and NC 28 by widening the pavement to include climbing/passing lanes throughout and improving shoulders. 19. Project Purpose (Describe the reason or purpose of the project, see instructions) The project purpose is to provide the transportation infrastructure necessary for the well-being of local residents by improving mobility and reliability between US 129 in Robbinsville and the existing four-lane section on NC 28 at Stecoah.
