Hi Kevin,
Sounds like you all have it under control. Thanks for the updates. Send me those pictures next week when all
is repaired. Have a good weekend.

Hey Dave,
I spoke to Vannoy regarding the instream sediment cleanup at Stat 768 LT (permit site 15A) and Stat 778 LT (permit site
17A). They removed 17, 5 gallon buckets from the stream yesterday at Stat 768 LT. They indicated 3 buckets of
sediment from Stat 778 LT.
Their crew is not doing any new earth moving work for the next few days, and are just buttoning up the existing EC
measures. We plan to meet with them next week to look at everything and ensure they are doing what is necessary to
help prevent similar issues in the future. I will get photos of the corrections they made at these two stations and pass
those along to you.
Thanks, let me know if you have any questions, and hope you have a good weekend (sounds like a good one to stay
inside, and by a warm fire!)
Kevin

Subject: Sediment loss at R-2915 E
Hey Dave,
Hope your holidays went well!
After a dry and relatively issue free fall and winter, we recently experienced sediment loss to streams at two stations on
R-2915E. The two locations were at Stat 768 LT (permit site 15A) and Stat 778 LT (permit site 17A).
We had > 1 inch of rain Sunday evening and into Monday morning (Jan 2-3), which then turned to several inches of
snow by Monday morning. As a result of the snow cover following the rain, it was probably difficult for our staff and the
contractor to identify problem areas. The snow also prevented the contractor from doing much work on R-2915E
during Monday and Tuesday, so there were likely fewer eyes on the ground than normal. Todd Hiatt and I visited the
site yesterday to do a routine inspection, and to check on some requests we had made just before the holiday break. By
this time, snow had started to melt, resulting in us finding a couple spots with obvious sediment losses to
streams. There were several other areas we have instructed the contractor to fix ASAP, and we will be monitoring their
progress. In the contractors defense, I think the holiday leave at New Year, coupled with the heavy rain and then
immediate cover up of mud and visible issues with snow, hampered their/our ability to catch the issues within 24hrs.
We had the contractor (Vannoy) met us immediately after finding these issues yesterday afternoon, and they have gone
to work fixing the issues, as well as retrieving sediment. With more rain and snow expected tonight, we asked them to
put all their effort into buttoning up any EC measures that had failed first and foremost, and then put their forces to
getting out visible sediment from the two streams. I do not have the actual totals lost yet, but hope to have them
soon. I expect it to be on the lower scale at the 17A site (maybe only a bucket or two), but I expect numerous buckets
from the 15A site.
I’ve attached a photo of each site from yesterday, and will follow up with photos once the corrective actions have taken
place. I’ll also get you the totals of sediment lost as soon as our staff receive them.
Thanks and let me know if you need additional information, etc.
Kevin
