Carteret Dirt Pit
Good afternoon Adam,
Now that we've been able to have some internal discussions on this project, I wanted to provide you with some
feedback regarding the Carteret Dirt Pit. Basically, our end goal is to know if and/or to what extent the
dewatering impacts the salinity and temperature within that section of the Creek. If the applicant is willing to
monitor for those sort of basic water quality parameters (temp, salinity, dissolved oxygen) at varying distances
from the discharge point, that would be ideal. If they could get that data at 4 or so locations on the northern side
of 24 (including one where Goose Creek and Sanders Creek meet) and one or two south of 24 (between 24 and
the dock that's closest to 24), I think that that should provide a sufficient look at how the waters are impacted. If
that's not really making sense, I'll be free tomorrow for a call to discuss this more (I'm getting ready to head out
of the office now and will be taking the afternoon off).
On a somewhat related note, my supervisor let me know that the paper copies for mining applications have all
be going to Morehead and are being forwarded to her down in Wilmington. I'm not sure if you all are required
to distribute hard copies, but if not, we're fine with just the electronic copies being sent to us. And so that you
know who they should be going to, my coverage area is from the Virginia line to Carteret County, and Kim's
area is Onslow County through the South Carolina line.
Thanks Adam, and let me know if there's anything else I can do!
Jimmy
