General Information Facility/System Name: Town of Newton Grove POINT SOURCE BRANCH Responsible Entity: Gerald Darden, Mayor (910) 594-0827- Person in Charge/Contact: Jim Ballance, ORC (910) 594-0827 cell (910) 591-7871 ®E R-FRO 1VED F E B 2 6 2009 Applicable Permit ` e00728• , WQ0010470 Description of Collection System or Treatment Process: DENR WATER QUALITY DWQ The collection system consists of five lift stations located throughout the Town and 120 low pressure grinder pumps at customer's homes. The main lift station that takes the wastewater to the treatment plant is located on Clinton Street behind Two Dogs Pizza. This lift station is fed by a gravity sewer and has an automatic 60 KW generator for backup power in the event of power failure. A lift station is located at McDonald's on 50/55 highway. A lift station is located approximately one quarter of a mile outside the Town limits on 50/55 highway. Another lift station is located at the trailer park on Mt Olive highway. A lift station is located at Hobbton School on Clinton Highway and pumps directly to the treatment plant. The treatment plant is located on Pork Chop Hill Road off Bryan Road. It consists of abar screen, flow equalization basin, an oxidation ditch/clarifier, a tertiary sand filter, aerobic digester, and flow monitoring/disinfection station. Ultraviolet light is usedto disinfect the water before being discharged into Beaver Dam Swamp and ultimately into Coharie Creek. A generator is located at the plant for power supply during power outages. This generator comes on automatically during power failure. All sludge generated at the plant enters an aerobic digester. Upon proper digestion, the sludge is then applied on a 7.4 acre permitted site (Permit#WQ0010470), adjacent to the treatment plant. Approximately 250,000 gallons of sludge are applied each year. II.
