This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NCG550040. A summary of the findings and comments noted during the inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report. The Compliance Evaluation inspection was conducted by Division of Water Resources staff from the Asheville Regional Office. This inspection was conducted to determine if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General Permit no. NCG550000. The property owner, Casey Hollifield, was present during the inspection. Mr. Hollifield purchased the property approximately 3 years ago and was not previously aware that there was a wastewater discharge permit associated with the property. Staff at the Local Health Department believe that this system may have been permitted through them at one time, but the file cannot be located. DEQ files indicate that the discharge was sampled in 1992; thus, a discharge pipe existed at one point. Ms. Williams relayed possible GPS coordinates that were found in DEQ files to Mr. Hollifield to help locate the discharge pipe. Because the effluent pipe has not been located, it cannot be determined if annual sampling is required. If the effluent pipe is located and the system discharges, then annual sampling will be required. Mr. Hollifield plans to camera the system to see what type of filter the system has.
