Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting in January regarding the proposed project to replace the N.C. 8 (Winston Road) bridge over U.S. 29 -64 -70 /Business 85 in Davidson County. The meeting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 30th, at Lexington Senior High School, located at 26 Penry Street in Lexington. NCDOT representatives will be available to answer questions and receive comments regarding the proposed project. Citizens will also have the opportunity to submit comments and questions in writing. Built in 1950, the existing bridge is reaching the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced to meet current and future traffic demands. The bridge will also be raised to provide for adequate clearance over US 29/64/70 /Business 85. NCDOT is planning to replace the bridge at its current location. The interchange ramps will be reconfigured and the existing pedestrian bridge over US 29/64/70 /Business 85 will be removed. Traffic will be maintained on -site during construction. This project will require the acquisition of additional right -of -way, and construction is scheduled to begin in June 2015.
