This is in response to the public notice concerning application of Donald Wayne Miles,
10806 US Hwy 21 S, POB 299, Roaring Gap, NC 28668.
We own the land (approximately 1-112 acres) directly in front of the proposed dam. The
unnamed creek feeding this proposed dam and pond is also the boundary between Mr.
Miles property and ours. Our concerns are what land and financial damage this
proposal will cause us. We have concerns pertaining to the flood conditions, erosion
and possibly causing a shift of the creek toward our property, that in turn would reduce
the actual land size on our side.
There is also the safety issue for us knowing there is a dam, along with atwenty-five
foot deep body of water, twice the size of our property that is directly above us. We
understand that progress does go on, but is this pond and dam necessary? There is
huge acreage for this proposed development. If it is necessary why can't the dam and
pond be built somewhere else on the property. Our deed states no damming of creek.
Doesn't his?
We bought this property two years ago and have invested several thousand dollars
trying to improve the property. We were here first! We installed a septic tank, updated
the electrical, planted trees, built a fence and a couple of new buildings. We have put
our heart and soul into making the property better. Someday in the future we have
intentions of retiring here. We have had several people stop and make comments on
how good things look, so you should understand our concern.
