Compliance Action Plan for Copper (CU .
p pp NCDEQ/DWR/NPDES
The Town of Weaverville takes all compliance issues very seriously with the
upmost of importance. The town intends to do the following.
• The town has analyzed all data dating back to January 2015 to try to see
any possible trends with copper testing results. What we can best
determine is that the town has only had two occurrences where the results
submitted to the town from a third-party laboratory were readable results
above the minimum testable limit. Once in July of 2017 with that level
being 11ug/I and then once in August of 2021 and that level was 4ug/I. In
finding this, it is very difficult to track what could be the cause with it being
so random.
• Starting January 2022, we are going to double the number of samples from
1 sample monthly to 2 samples to hopefully gather more data and see if a
trend appears in copper concentrations.
• If we do not see a trend develop in the year 2022 then we plan to start
taking a raw river water copper samples in 2023 on the same days as our
effluent sampling to see if maybe we're pulling in a copper concentration
from our watershed at certain points through out the year.
• Weaverville will Analyze all materials that lead to our waste stream that
could possibly contribute to higher copper concentrations.
In closing I would like to say the Town hopes to determine any possible causes
of copper concentration and take affirmative action to correct any issues.
