Dear Ms. Homewood:

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USAGE) is performing the Watauga Aquatic
Restoration Project under the authority of Section 206 of the Water Resources Development Act
(WRDA) of 1996. The project is located in Boone, Watauga County, North Carolina, adjacent to
Appalachian State University's intramural fields and the Greenway Trail. The aquatic restoration
project has been designed to stabilize and reduce erosion, improve aquatic habitat, establish
riparian areas, establish two wetland areas, provide limited stream access to the South Fork of the
New River and preserve these restoration areas in perpetuity.
Attached for your review and approval is the Pre - Construction Notification Form and
supplemental information for this project. Our office is seeking to obtain all necessary permits and
authorization at this time. Based upon project funding, our office plans to begin construction in the
early part of spring 2014.
Our office has enclosed five (5) copies of the application package. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (304) 399 -5924 or by email at
