Collection System:
The City of Lumberton. is pleased to present the 2008 fiscal year report, on performance
of the Wastewater Collection System, to customers and the North Carolina Department of
Environment and Natural Resources. This report period is from July 1, 2007 to June 30,
2008 and is based on 12 months of performance.
The collection system has approximately 200 miles of piping and 42 lift stations located
in and around the City of Lumberton. Lift stations are monitored daily and operate under
permit # WCS00024. Responsible persons in charge are; Kevin Burns .(ORC), Timmy
Cain (Backup ORC), Dixon Ivey (Deputy City Manager), and Lesaundri Hunt (Backup

Performance:
The system performed satisfactorily for the report period, conveying approximately
1,793,200,000 gals and SSO's were estimated at 52;105 gals, which is approximately
0.0029% of total volume conveyed. The system was operated and maintained on a daily
basis and repairs were done as required.

July 71 Spill occurred at Stephens Park. (250 gals. did not reach surface water) Cause:
Rainwater surcharge. Correetirve action taken: Contaminated area was cleaned and
disinfected.

February 18a` Spill occurred at Stephens Park. (500 gals. reached surface water in the
Lumber River) Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken: Contaminated
area was cleaned and disinfected.
February 18th Spill occurred at Ed's Tire pump station. (250 gals. reached surface
water in the Lumber River) Cause: Rainwater surrl,arge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
February 18th Spill occurred at manhole #3 on Noir St. (100 gals. reached surface water
in the Lumber River) Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
February 18th Spill occurred at Musselwhite Circle & Alexander St. (500 galls. reached
surface water in the Meadow Branch canal) Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective
action taken: "Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
February 26th Spill occurred at 3621 Dawn. (225 gals. did not reach surface water)
Cause: Pipe failure. Corrective action taken: Contaminated area was cleaned and
disinfected.
March 2008:
March 31st Spill occurred at the intersection of Haystivood & Mulberry St (500 gals
reached surface water in the Meadow Branch canal). Cause: Blocked line (grease).
Corrective action taken: Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected. Line was
cleaned.
April 2008:
April 5th Spill occurred at manhole #4 on Noir St. (2900 gals reached surface water in
the Lumber River). Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
April 5th Spill occurred at Beal and Noir St. intersection (1600 gals reached surface
water in the Lumber River), Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and. disinfected.
April 5th Spill occurred at Ed's Tire pump station. (1000 gals reached surface water in
the Lumber River). Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.

April 5th & 6th Spill occurred at Stephens Park. (15000 gals reached surface water in
the Lumber River). Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected. -
April 5th & 6th Spill occurred at Tartan Rd. & Kahn Dr. intersection.(3000 gals
reached surface water in the Meadow branch canal). Cause: Rainwater surcharge.
Corrective action taken: Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
April Sth & 6th Spill occurred at Sterling Dr. (5580 gals reached surface water in the
Meadow branch canal). Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
April 5th & 6th, Spill occurred at Kensington Ave (dead end). (11700 gals reached
surface water in the Meadow branch canal). Cause: Rainwater surcharge. Corrective
action taken: Contanthated area was cleaned and disinfected.
jy 2008:
May 56 Spill occurred at 600 w, 5th St. (pump station #3) (9000 gals reached surface
water in the Lumber River). Cause: Pipe failure. Corrective action taken:
Contaminated area was cleaned and disinfected.
June 2008:
No spills.
