Subject: Re: North Topsail Beach permit modification (UNCLASSIFIED)
Thanks for the good summary, Mickey. And, just to clarify the few "I think" statements: Yes,
the Town is potentially interested in moving forward with constructing the remaining portions
(Phases II, III, and IV) after they complete Phase V (the phase under consideration right
now). Initially the Town hoped to construct Phases II through V all together in light of
their severe erosion problems, but recognizing the time associated with obtaining permits,
they scaled back their modification to just Phase V, which, hopefully, will involve a
streamlined process compared to the larger project and associated modifications. Should the
Town decode to move forward with planning for Phases II, III, and IV, we will certainly let
you know and will be in touch.
Hope that helps provide some clarity on a complex project with what often seems like a moving
target!
Thanks,
Brad

modification to our May 27, 2011 authorization (their long -term permit), and wanted to give
you a heads -up. This is different than the Notice of Intent Public Notice issued late June
announcing the preparation of a Supplement to the EIS. In short, the Town is requesting to
modify the original permit in attempt to implement Phase V of the original permit this
dredging window ('13/'14). The modification consists of changing the construction schedule &
the footprint for Phase V. All other aspects of Phase V in the May 27, 2011 authorization
remains the same (borrow area, use of cutter head, monitoring, dredging window....).

and the Town is proposing to implement that during the '14/'15 dredging window (again, I
think).
