ANNUAL WASTE WATER REPORT
FOR
ROBESON COUNTY WATER DEPARTMENT
I. GENERAL INFORMATION
The Robeson County Water Department operates five (5) wastewater facilities, which
discharge to surface water. This wastewater originates from filter backwash during the
operation of the water treatment plants. The wastewater consists of iron sludge, which is
removed from drinking water. The following is a list of permits and the discharge
location:

II. PERFORMANCE
All five (5) wastewater treatment operations work the same way. Filtered backwash
water flows to an open lagoon or wastewater facility, which allows solids to settle out
before clear water is discharged to surface waters. Solids which are collected may then
be treated and disposed of at the Robeson County Landfill.
During the period of January -December 2004, all operations ran smoothly. Discharge
permits were renewed and issued for all five (5) facilities. Reduced limits were given for
chlorine concentrations on the new permits. Arrangements are being made to comply
with the new discharge parameters. All five (5) permit discharges were inspected by
personnel from the Division of Water Quality in June 2004 and all records, operations,
and facilities were found to be satisfactory.
