GENERAL INFORMATION The Robeson County Water Department operates five (5) wastewater facilities, which discharge to surface water. This wastewater originates from filter backwash during the operation of the water treatment plants. The wastewater consists of iron sludge, which is removed from drinking water. The following is a list of permits and the discharge location: 1. Permit NC0084204 677 Kenric Road SR 1589 Lumberton, N.C. Discharge to Back Swamp Drainage Canal 2. Permit NC0085685 18320 NC 71 North Lumber Bridge, N.C. Discharge to Big Marsh Swamp 3. Permit NC0048577 265 McGirt Road Maxton, N.C. Discharge to Lumber River II. PERFORMANCE All five (5) wastewater treatment operations work the same way. Filtered be water flows to an open lagoon or wastewater facility, which allows solids to settle out before clear water is discharged to surface waters. Discharge to First Swamp D FEB 0 1 2011 ENR-WATER QUALI eIROVISOURCE BRANCH During the period of January -December 2010 the following permit violations occurred: Permit NC0048577 Total Suspended Solids -February and March 2010 Procedures have been put in place to remove sludge more frequently and eliminate the TSS problem. All five (5) permit discharges were inspected by personnel from the Division of Water Quality in January 2010 and all records, operations, and facilities were found to be satisfactory.
