I talked with Davin about this response yesterday to make sure this was the correct course of action. Apparently the reforestation is a Roadside Environmental policy in situations like this. Thanks. The plans that are submitted show the new fill slope only being slightly more than the current one, so what is the cause for the need tohandc|earin the wetland/buffer area? The hand clearing is to allow the contractor to installed the proposed overhead power line and siltfence. And it mentions reforesting impacted buffers but if you are just handclearing and not stumping why would that be proposed and in what areas exactly? 1 The reforestation requirement is a NCDOT Roadside Environmental policy to reforest any stream environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs) when trees are removed due to clearing and /or grading operations. The ESAs are measured 50' from the top of bank on both sides of the stream. Trees will not be planted directly under the power line. The exact location of the planted trees will be determined in the field by the Division Roadside Environmental Engineer during construction. Nikki From: Homewood, Sue Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 12:36 PM To: Thomson, Nicole J Subject: Bridge #204 Hey Nicole, On this project the cover letter says the wetland and buffer impacts are a result of widening the approach for the new bridge and fill slopes (I assume this means the permanent impacts). The plans that are submitted show the new fill slope only being slightly more than the current one, so what is the cause for the need to handclear in the wetland /buffer area? That's not clear to me. And it mentions reforesting impacted buffers but if you are just handclearing and not stumping why would that be proposed and in what areas exactly? Thanks • 713
