Re: Notice of Violation
Sanitary Sewer Overflows — October 2021
Saddleridge Collection System, Wake County
Collection System Permit No. WQCSD0743
NOV-2021-DV-0466
Dear Mr. Vinson:
Aqua North Carolina, Inc. (Aqua) offers the following response to the above -referenced Notice of Violation, which
was issued for a sanitary sewer overflow of a grinder pump tank found 1n October 2021 Discharge Monitoring
Report.
Aaua's Response:
This is a low-pressure line that carries sewer from the step system tanks to the lift station. A root was rubbing
on the side of a brass shut-off valve for that line. Over the years, vibration from the pump tanks cycling wore a
hole in the side of the shut-off valve. Once the root was removed, Aqua's crew replaced the shut off valve,
check valve, and 2 feet of 2-inch PVC pipe.
Upon discovery, Aqua took immediate action by making the necessary repairs to stop the spill and contacted
our emergency contractors David Jacobs and Vision NC. The emergency contractor was able to recover and
dispose of roughly 8,500 gallons. The area affected was then limed, re -seeded, and strawed. No negative
impacts to the environment were witnessed because of this incident.
