Subject: Glenville Project
Hi Mr. Goldstrom —
I am reviewing your 401 application and have several of questions:
• Have you been in contact with Duke Energy about your project? Yes we have. Kevin Holland from Duke has been
onsite and met with the contractor to review what we wanted to do. My understanding was that Kevin was supportive
• Do you understand your project must comply with Duke's Shoreline Management Guidelines? Yes we do
understand.
• Picture A shows a very shallow eroded bank. Hardening lake shorelines can cause the transfer of erosive actions
downshore. Increasing the vegetated buffer in an area with erosion characteristics like in picture A may be a better
solution. Have you considered planting more native vegetation as opposed installing rip -rap? Native vegetation provides
increased habitat for aquatic and terrestrial life, shading for aquatic life and increased food for many species. We originally
wanted to have the entire boulder wall like the rest of the neighbors. After consulting with Duke and the contractor, we
felt a little bit of rip rap was the best solution. Picture A was just one snap shot there are other sections where we plan
to put rip rap that is more eroded. We just wanted to give you all a sense of the extremes.
• Who will you be doing the work? The work will be done by Ben Odom who is on the Duke list. Ben has met with
Kevin on -site
Thanks,
Chuck
