collection system contributing to the Sanitary Sewer Overflow in the referenced NOV received
November 18, 2021. Please note the incident, as reported in BIMS, did not require a press release. The
SSO, Incident No. 202102048, was located within Sub -Basin `I' and caused by debris in the spill
manhole 1-16, which was observed within 39 minutes of beginning and immediately addressed by
removal of a manhole cover from the invert. NC Division of Transportation had a paving project going
on in this area at the time of the incident. When they were milling down the road, they evidently burst a
manhole cover and it fell in the bottom of the manhole. They did not remove the broken pieces of
manhole cover from the invert, and it produced the backup. The Sanitary District has no known
associated problems in the area for having backups.
