Describe the existing conditions on the site and the general land use in the vicinity of the project at the time of this application: * The existing conditions are two lane primary roads connecting generally east -west from Robbinsville east to the 4-lane Section of NC 28 towards Swain County. The general land use adjacent to the roadways is mixed agricultural and residential with mostly forested conditions more distant from the road. The majority of the watersheds in the project area are forested. 4b. Explain the purpose of the proposed project: * The purpose of the project is to increase the mobility and reliability of travel between Robbinsville and areas to the east. 41. Describe the overall project in detail, including indirect impacts and the type of equipment to be used: * The project involves improvements of the existing roadway alignments with a 2+1 typical section that will add roadway width, tuming lanes, passing lanes, and climbing lanes at many locations to reduce traffic conflicts and constrictions. The project will also use a land bridge to address historic concerns associated with the Appalachian Trail crossing. Typical heavy earth moving equipment will be used including dozers, track -hoes, dump trucks, drill rigs, and cranes. 4k.
