VOA Labeling Guidance

The Chemistry Lab requests each VOA vial submitted to be labeled appropriately to prevent misidentification.
As discussed at the Monitor Meeting there are different possibilities as to how to accomplish this. The two
methods that seem to be cost-effective and easy to accomplish are the following:

Pre-Printed Label Method (Picture 1- Labels normally placed on your green tags)
1. Place a pre-printed label on each vial with at minimum the station number and sample date.
2. Attach with rubber band a green tag with all necessary information to entire set of vials for station. (Picture 2)
3. Place entire set of vials into bubble bag and place on ice.

Pre-Packaged Label Method (Picture 3- Labels that are sent in each case of VOA vials)
1. Write on labels at minimum the station number and sample date.
2. Place label on each vial.
3. Attach with rubber band a green tag with all necessary information to entire set of vials for station. (Picture 4)
4. Place entire set of vials into bubble bag and place on ice.

Both methods will need to be monitored to make sure the labels will not fall off vials or disintegrate if saturated in
water. From my past experience, if the vial is dry when the label is applied and they are not in direct contact
with water then the labeling works. If it is determined one or both methods do not work then we will adjust. Also
if you find another method that works for you, please let me know. NOTE: Never write on the vial septum.
